Maternal mental health
Maternal mental health services provide bereavement counselling, perinatal support and counselling to those struggling with infertility.
What we do
We work with people who have had birth trauma, experienced baby loss, terminated a pregnancy, have a child with genetic anomalies or who have a child in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Who we see
Care is provided to inpatients on the obstetrics unit and in the labour and delivery unit, and for parents with babies admitted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (by outpatient appointment). Outpatient referrals are also accepted from fertility services and community service providers whose clients match these criteria.
Our team
Our team is comprised of psychologists who work in conjunction with nursing staff, obstetrician and gynecologist physicians, and the unit social workers at the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre and Health Sciences Centre.
How to access this service
Sessions are by appointment only and priority is given to clients on the inpatient units seeking assistance.
Referrals are accepted from physicians, nurses, community health, social work, and clients who match the criteria may self-refer. See referrals.
