Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit
The Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit (MFAU) provides fetal assessment and monitoring (including ultrasound) to individuals with high-risk pregnancies.
What we do
The MFAU provides increased surveillance as recommended by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada for certain high-risk groups, such as individuals with a variety of medical disorders (including hypertension and diabetes), a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater, a birthing parental age of 40 or greater, or those with pregnancies achieved through in vitro fertilization (IVF). We also follow multiple pregnancies and pregnancies with fetal anomalies.
Who we see
We provide care to individuals who are pregnant with high-risk pregnancies.
Our team
Our team is comprised of the following health-care professionals:
- Perinatologists (doctors who are maternal fetal medicine specialists.)
- Registered nurses/ultrasound technologists who have specialized training to perform ultrasound exams.
