Who we are
Our team offers specialty services to individuals of all ages in the community who are preparing for the the birth of their baby, who have experienced pregnancy, who are seeking post-partum care and/or who are experiencing gynecology health-care challenges.
What we do

When to come to hospital:
- Pregnancy greater than 20 weeks: Clients are asked to present to Emergency Registration and identify themselves as greater than 20 weeks gestation. Instruction will be given on how to proceed to the case room. Nursing staff will be notified to expect your arrival on the unit.
- Pregnancy less than 20 weeks: Clients are asked to present to Emergency Registration and will access care in the emergency room. Consultation to the obstetrical specialist will be made by the emergency physician as required.

What kind of accommodations do obstetrics patients have at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital?
There are a combination of private and semi-private rooms on the inpatient unit. Please see Before, during and after your hospital stay for detailed information on how you can prepare for your hospital stay.
Can I have a support person stay with me while I am admitted having a baby?
Yes, support persons are welcome 24 hours, seven days a week. Please see Visiting a health-care facility for the most up-to-date information regarding a support person for labour and delivery patients.
What do I bring with me to hospital when having a baby?
Most hospital admissions for obstetrical reasons tend to be between 2-4 days in duration. We recommend personal care items and comfortable lounging wear as well as non-slippery footwear. For breastfeeding individuals, a positioning pillow is often convenient but not required. We also recommend bringing Baby’s clothes and personal items. An infant car seat should also be brought in before discharge.

Can I do a birthing plan for my delivery at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital?
Yes, we encourage discussion regarding options for a birthing plan with your physician. Communication about your plan with nursing staff is encouraged upon arrival. We will work with you to support your plan for the best possible birthing experience.
