Eat well
Eating well means learning to eat and enjoy a variety of foods and beverages. These foods and beverages are the basis of your health and well-being.
Tips to help you eat well:
- Eat well by following Canada’s Food Guide by including high quality foods in all meals and snacks.
- Drink water for thirst and limit the amount of sugary beverages consumed.
- Eat a variety of foods.
- Eat unprocessed/unrefined whole foods daily.
- Eat vegetables and fruits daily with each meal and snack.
- Eat more plant-based protein such as peas, beans, lentils (legumes), nuts and seeds.
- Eat foods high in fibre.
- Minimize / limit processed or refined foods.
- Decrease the amount of added sugar and salt that is eaten on a daily basis.
- Eat healthy (unsaturated) fats; limit saturated fat and avoid trans fat.
- Use the Division of Responsibility to help children develop healthy eating habits and behaviours and positive relationships with food.
- Prepare and eat meals together as a family.
- Help children learn food literacy life skills.
- Have fun with your food.
