The Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre offers the CAYAC (Children and Youth in Alternate Care) clinic. This is a multidisciplinary, multiagency clinic that aims to address the physical and mental health needs of children/youth in alternate care.
What we do
The clinic serves as a medical home for patients and provides continuity of care and timely access to services. This is especially important in order to keep medical histories up-to-date, even as caregivers change. The clinic helps children and youth navigate the various systems from which they require services. Clinical staff liaise with other professionals involved in care including staff from the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development (CSSD) of the Government on Newfoundland and Labrador, therapists and school personnel, to name a few.
Who we see
The clinic is available for any child/youth (up to their 18th birthday) with alternate care arrangements (e.g., foster care, kinship care, family-based care or an independent living arrangement).
The primary government social worker and a person who directly cares for the child/youth may attend appointments. If there are multiple children from the family in care, they may all attend the clinic.

How to access this service
Referrals can be made by any person within the child’s circle of care. Most often referrals are made by a CSSD (Children, Seniors and Social Development) social worker. Please direct referral letters to:
